ILLUSTRATION

First and foremost, I consider myself an illustrator. When able, I like to draw my own assets and use them across graphic design, animation, social graphics, and print design. I find the most inspiration in nature and while hiking outside through the wilderness as well as weekend trips to cities and neighboring towns.
This appreciation can be seen through my love of wildlife and landscapes that frequent my work.

MOTION GRAPHICS

What first inspired me to become a designer and artist was classic 2D animation. Having learned the 12 principles, I have gone on to draw and animate for both my full time job as well as freelance clients. Taking my vector work that I created in Illustrator, I am able to bring them to life through animation.
After Effects gives me the tools to tell a story through any style I am able to draw in other programs.
In all the motion graphics work I execute, sincerity and good design are essential.

GRAPHIC DESIGN

Going into graphic design stemmed from my appreciation for the beautiful books I collected over the years as well as printed materials I saved from traveling. Since then, it has expanded to incorporating similar ideas into T-shirt design, social media graphics, branding, logo design, and even coffee mugs.

MARKETING CAMPAIGNS

  • Overview-The idea was to promote Prince George’s County, Maryland as a destination and the library as a gateway to those adventures

  • Process-We settled on evoking the mid-century NPS posters while featuring local points of interest along with video combining 2D animation
    and live action

  • Results-Increased interest in library programs along with more foot traffic. Over 1.3 million minutes of reading logged by participants. Also, promotional postcards featuring original artwork were extremely popular and had to be reordered

  • Overview-The setting was the woodlands and waterways of Prince George’s County. Creating an original character named Dia, a great blue heron chick, we retold the story of the Ugly Duckling in which the library helps her find her family

  • Process-With Hans Christian Anderson’s story as a starting point, we then looked to the local flora and fauna to develop the look of the marketing materials and characters

  • Results-One million minutes of reading were logged by our customers, over a thousand more registrants for the program than 2020, over seven thousand attendees came to program events, over forty thousand views on primary advertisement, and garnering of the prestigious Excellence in Marketing Award from the Maryland Library Association

BRANDING DESIGN

EDITORIAL DESIGN

This style guide was created and edited to assist the Prince Georges County Library System. Primarily, it helped staff understand and implement design choices that kept a coherent voice.

The 2021 Annual Report needed to be a booklet rather than a folded letter size piece. With this in mind, we approached the concept and design based around the chalk drawings and paintings done by our younger customers.

LABEL DESIGN

HELLO FOLKS!

My name is Drew Clark. No, my parents did not know I was going to enter an artistic field when I grew up. That being said, I find it slightly humorous that my first name reflects what I like to do, which is draw. Drawing is what steered me into design and animation, and it is what I find the most relaxing yet invigorating experience in the world.

What drives me in this field is learning new ways to express an idea. That is why I am enthusiastic about learning new software and methods of presentation. Each project should be approached as a different composition with emphasis put on one thing: reaching an audience. However, that audience does not want to be captivated by gimmicks or cheap tricks. They want to be sincerely addressed about something. That is what my life drawing class taught me. In everything, there is a vibe being portrayed. Animate or inanimate, you want your piece giving off the right "mood."

No matter the medium (fine art, print, digital, film), I am always listening for the feeling and message the client wants to present. That emotional tug is what I aim for in every piece, and I will be happy to accomplish that in my future endeavors.
